Summer Festivals 2017
Summer in Portugal also means music.
Whatever is your music style chances are that you will find the right event for you; jazz, pop, rock, classic, world music, fado, etc.
From July to September you have music all over the country. Not only this is a way of having great entertainment but also to travel around the country and get to know small villages or towns that would have been out of your itinerary.
From 8/11 Aug, if you are in the Alentejo, drive to Portalegre to see the Andanças Festival, dedicated to Portuguese bands. While you are there don’t miss the Tapestry Museum and a short drive to historic towns of Castelo de Vide and Marvão. Enjoy the nice views and the delicious gastronomy.
Head north towards Tomar, to listen more Portuguese music from 11 to 14 August. You will be able to hear some important names such as Samuel Úria (13th August) and Rodrigo Leão, ex Madre Deus (14th August). During the day visit the unique Convento de Cristo.
Further north, from 16 to 19 August, in Paredes de Coura, you have one of the oldest and most iconic international music festival in Portugal: Kate Tempest, Nick Murphy, Young Fathers and Benjamin Clementine are some of this year bands.
Finally on 15/16 September, in Alfama, Lisbon, you have the Fado festival: Caixa Alfama. Take the opportunity to walk around Alfama listening to the national music in hidden corners and churches, mixing well known and important singers with new rising stars.
But these are only some ideas. We can count more than 40 summer festivals around Portugal…
