Museu Nacional do Azulejo
Welcome to Museu Nacional do Azulejo
Located in the ancient Convent of Madre de Deus, a building founded in 1509 by Queen D. Leonor, the Glazed Tiles Museum (Museu Nacional do Azulejo) is one of the most important national museums.
The Museum’s mission is to preserve, present and study the ceramics of Portugal with a particular emphasis on tiles from the XV century till the XX century.
Highlights include the Mannerist retable of Nossa Senhora da Vida and the Lisbon panel, which is twenty three meters long and represents the city before the 1755 earthquake.
The cloister is all covered in wonderful blue and yellow panel tiles from the XVII and XVIII century, giving it an elegant atmosphere.
