13 Dec Christmas in Portugal
Christmas in Portugal
This season is great for a mini holiday in Portugal as it is not very cold and there are still some sunny days!
Christmas in Portugal – Some traditions:
Dinner on the 24th of December – cod is very popular in this special season. However, roast turkey and other meat dishes are also part of the menu. For dessert, we have our special Bolo Rei (King’s cake) and some traditional desserts like filhós, sonhos and rabanadas.
Midnight Mass – at midnight we have a mass at the church.
Three Kings Day – on the 06th of January we celebrate the Three Kings Day, which is a very special day for the Catholics. On the streets or some monuments and churches, you can hear traditional songs.
In this season we also have musical programmes and entertainment in the historic towns and villages.
